250 Lap Endurance Race
We will run our third annual ‘250 Lap
Endurance Race’ on August 1st, 2010. Last year’s event was a blast.
And if we may boast a bit, the go karts didn’t have a single mechanical
failure!!!! The only laps that weren’t
run were the ones that were lost by being lapped on track! So let’s start getting your teams together
again for 2010 as the date will be here before you know it.
Race rules are listed below. This year we will tailor the rules to fit
either a two (2) or three (3) person team.
Entry fee is $375/team. A $125
deposit is due with each reservation.
The balance is due before or morning of the race.
250
Lap Race Rules
- Teams can be two (2) or three (3) driver minimum, can also be more.
- No two way radios allowed in the helmet.
- Race distance will be 250 laps or three (3) Hours, whichever occurs
first.
- 41 second lead pace will get race done in 2.93
hours
- This includes a two (2) minute mandatory gas
stop and six (6) other driver change stops averaging 1 minute 10
seconds.
- 7 pit stops required (this makes for even
stints for 2 or 4 driver teams. 3
driver teams will have one driver short one segment).
- Each team must have seven (7) laps of > one
(1) minute on the score sheet (plus the 2 minute fuel stop) at the end
of the event.
- Teams can count accidents as pit stops, but
may not count time in the penalty box as a > one (1) minute lap.
- The distance will require one (1) fuel stop
- Teams are completely responsible for pit stop
strategy excluding the fuel stop.
- Fuel pit stop assignments will be made for a
specific lap range.
- Fuel window is between laps 100 – 150. The karts will go approx. 150 laps
on a tank
- A special flag by the pit lane steward, as
well as announcements will notify a team of the approaching fuel
stop. Team members may also
signal the team driver of fuel stop lap. A team member or relief driver
must be at pit entrance to hand walk the kart to fueling area.
- SRR crew will do re-fueling of karts, will
oil chain and do quick visual check of kart during a timed two (2)
minute fuel stop.
- Pit Stop Procedure:
- Teams must use pit entry/slow down lane to
enter the pits.
- Failure to do so will incur a
30 second penalty.
- Once on the cement pit they must stop until a
team mate reaches the kart. The
team mate will walk them to a pit spot (pit spots will be unassigned,
just use an open one). After
driver change, team mate will hand walk them to exit line of pit
area. No pushing of karts, karts
must leave under own power.
- If a driver change isn’t being made at pit
stop, the driver must exit the kart from one side, walk around and
re-enter from other side before being hand walked out of pits.
- Gas Stop: Team mate will meet kart and driver at pit
entrance and hand walk the kart and driver to the gas stop area.
- Rough Driving:
- Rolled black flags will result in a stop in the
penalty box for 30 seconds. If driver does not stop for the timed
penalty they will be assessed a 90
second penalty on the score sheet/computer. If driver doesn’t stop and driving infractions continue the
race will be red flagged and the offending driver will be removed from
the event.
- Driver must drive around track after receiving
rolled black from flagman to the penalty box which will be located on
the back of the starting oval.
The crew member in the penalty box will also have kart number
displayed on a chalk board.
- Team is DQ’d from event with 5th
rough driving penalty.
- Teams will be assessed a five (5) second penalty for cone
violations.
- Passing in the grass is illegal. A five (5) second penalty will be added to the score sheet for any
illegal passes unless the position is given back on track.
- SRR will provide:
- 2nd scoring monitor in garage area
for teams to watch.
- If teams have questions about scoring the crew
member on the back of the starting oval can be asked the question and it
will be radioed to scoring for answer.
- Updated race times and race reports will be
posted.
- Lap count score board next to flag man
- Pit board for penalty box guy to post kart
number
- Fueling devices and crew to perform fueling pit
stops.
- Each kart had the toe in set and was track
tested on Saturday. All karts
drive well, have equal rubber and are prepped to the best of our ability
for this event.
- We will provide the mechanical help to keep you
in the race. If something is
damaged due to accident we will attempt to fix the kart or
component. If something breaks
due to wear or becomes loose we will repair the kart. If the kart breaks due to Sugar River
Raceway’s fault, like a broken frame we will provide a spare kart. This is the only instance that another
kart will be issued.
- Gas stops will take precedence over fixing
broken go karts.
- Gas Stop Assignments:
- Karts will be assigned gas stops based on kart
number. Small number karts will
stop first.
- We will do a pit stop every three (3) minutes.
If positioning of a kart on track makes it necessary we will pit more
than one kart at a time.
- If the kart does not pit on the assigned lap or
the following lap they will be assessed a 30 second penalty. Missing these two laps will also
relegate them to the end of the pit stop list, or after the highest number
kart. This will put the team in
the area where the kart may run out of gas.
- The table below shows how the karts pitted for
gas during the 2008 250 lapper.
